I'm sorry If I caused you any harm with my review of day 8. I didn't realise what harm I was causing by letting EVERYTHING out I felt about a piece and didn't think anything of it. I will try to be more aware of how different people respond to criticism. I basically wrote these reviews as how I'd like to hear them out myself and because of that, when I like something, I go all out on the media, when I dislike something, I go all out on the media. Or at least I used to, I don't know if anything will change, I hope it will. and I'm also once again sorry if I caused you any harm. The song itself I really like, I feel like for the llimited time it is mixed really well, I really like the main melody, and meanwhile it isn't a genre I'd listen to everyday, you got me hooked I must say. I think the middle part is the best out of the whole song, and also the piano transition I adore. It's a definite favourite of mine so far from you.

I really dig the stereo on this one, it is clear there has been a lot of work from the start. I'd maybe work a little on the mixing on the drums, since it seems like they were the only instrument not to have any reverbs or filters put on them. Other than these drums the mixing is right on the spot, I really like the 1:12-1:32 part, where the drums are the main focus. The melody is also rather on the good side. I think it can be a bit formualic but overall I'd say I rather like this one, although it has some issues.

This isn't really cohesive and the drums don't fit the rest, the strings around 0:35 also don't quite fit. It's a big mess if you were to ask me, the chords also don't always fit the melody? I really dig what you did in the last 30 seconds though, which saves it from a 2 star to me. There's defenitely a lot of work that'd need to be put into this, but I believe there's some potential

Scareev responds:

I did the chords sound dissonant on purporse, but it sounded like that dissonance that you hear when someone is starting on music xd, well, this song was pretty rushed for my time, but i do see that it has a LOT of mistakes, jamuary is crazy bcs i can do something extremely good or insanely confusing sometimes lol

I think the mixing could use a little help, there are deffinitely way too many instruments playing at once, It's like if you started with one thing and then added and added upon it because you weren't quite sure what to make of it, also I might be wrong but it doesn't have anything to do with the name you chose (which is just a nitpick but still), because neither is it a serenade or does it feel noiry. If you went into something more 12/8 or bluesy I could understand, but the state this is in doesn't really, like I said maybe you should try some of the stuff I listed.

Casper responds:

this is one of the songs where I actually like the mix, to me it all sort of blends in together but I may just be biased lol. Name definitely doesn't fit, I couldn't come up with a good one D:

Really reminded me of Blue Sway at the start, which I do really recommend you to listen to since it's in a pretty similar style to what you seem to be doing, but not too much since that is much more disco than electrical.
I do recognise the samples you used quite well, and I think you used them in a very interesting way (Forward march I think one of them is called, I even used it on one of my songs) the forward march feels like a melody for a Vocal Line in an instrument. I don't really love it, but I gave the 4.5 stars regardless, because it is so close to being an actually releasable song out of the go, the whole thing is pretty solid, I would say it's pretty good on my own, the mixing once again could use some work, BUT IT'S A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN DAY 8, I'll give you that.

I just realised what I thought were eyes on your profile picture was actually the nose. I think the trumpet sample doesn't really fit what's going on in the backgrounds. I'd also add some reverb to both the trumpet and the saw and deffinitely make them more quiet. Other than that it's fine, but nothing special, definitely could have worked better if you worked on the main instruments, and since you know, they're the main stars of the show when it comes to songs.

While I do think the mixing could use some work here and there, it's okay, just, ends too quickly, WAY TOO QUICKLY. I think there's something really hard about jamuary. You either come up with a 6 minute long song you came up in 2 hours that sounds terrible, or a 40 second long track that took an hour and sounds fine, and just once every few days you get enough time and motivation to do something bigger that's actually good and could work as a standalone track.

Making music can be very easy but everything depends on what are you looking for, i prefer to make something short but with value to it, in the case of jamuary, for me, if the song have something interesting then is a win, one of the things that i really like is when i can see pictures listening to the music i make, i agree with what you say tho, sometimes you need let the music rest for a few days and then come back

It caught my interest since the start, It kind of reminds me of Portal 2 Ost once again mixed with a little newgrounds flavour to it (there's just a set type of music that I associate with newgrounds flash games and this sounds like if it came from such a flash game to me). It works nicely around the tension building. I would work on the loudness of the snare during certain parts (around 1:20 and 1:45 it gets way too loud). maybe add some variety to it by panning or something.

I'd deffinitely tone down the drums since they're really dissorianting, the piano in the background too, I feel like the mixing on this track could use a lot of work, I also don't understand why the different sample near 0:53 that kind of breaks the tempo for a bit. I think everything else is quite good to be honest, I like the beat and the saxophone has some really nice effects on it. I LOVE THE REALLY RETRO SOUNDING THING IT'S SO GOOD. If you gave more sense to the sample that occasionaly breaks the tempo, and changed the volume of some instruments, I think this would be A LOT better. Also if you gave it an ending. but as a whole it's a big mess- there's a lot I like and a lot I dislike.

Casper responds:

mixing is defintely off, so much so that it's barely there. The drums are not in the mixer at all, I just played around with the velocity. I remember I pretty much made this on my laptop speakers and just fixed stuff that was harsh

Oh god do the samples not mix together well, at least to me it sounds absolutely atrocious to listen to, like I can't understand what lead to this, and it's also very repetetive to top it all off, I'm writing this part being only 2 minutes in and it's already hard to listen. Even if you were going for this kind of effect, WHY 6 MINUTES. I bet there also would be a better way of building up the tension by making it sound bad. I can hear you wanted to do the alarm clock at about 3:30, BUT WHY AROUND 3:30 AND NOT NEAR THE START, nothing about this makes sense composition wise to me, it's all over the place.
Okay if you asked me the 3 most important things to fix without changing most of the melody:
1. Remove the strings in the backyard, they're really unnecessary and prove no purpose.
2. Work on the mixing, since it's also all over the place
3. please change the samples make it shorter and work on the order of what's going on
